Anchor Right Yet again achieving the seemingly impossible.

Texas T, This large boat has a history of dragging its ground tackle (anchors) recently after being taken over by a skipper from Queensland he turned to Anchor Right to try and solve this problem.

Texas T

See testimonial.

I first took over the Captaincy of “TEXAS T” in Fiji and my maiden voyage on her took me through some very isolated islands and reefs between Northern Vanuatu and PNG.

Being extremely solid and heavy, steel, expedition vessel with a curvaceous, flared bow, “Texas T” has the ability to seriously test out any ground tackle. The original plough type anchors on board gave me many a sleepless night dragging erratically through coral studded lagoons.

Needless to say on arrival back into Brisbane one of my first jobs was to find a more suitable pair of anchors, which not only aesthetically blended into the bow sprint stem area but anchors that actually worked.

I had previously used a Super SARCA on a smaller lighter vessel and was very impressed by its holding ability. Unfortunately, we were unable to fit this model of anchor into the existing roller setup on “Texas T”.

Rex from Sarca Anchors after hearing my problem sent me a plywood model of his latest SARCA EXCEL anchor which not only fitted the current set up but looked neat and unobtrusive compared to other anchor styles tried.

We were extremely pleased with our decision. On our first anchoring sea trial, close to the sand hills of Tangalooma, we dived on the anchor and could only see the chain disappearing into the sand. In muddy conditions we now have to manoeuver over the top of the anchor and then actually drive the anchor out.

When you are in charge of a valuable asset like “Texas T’, you can’t afford to take chances with poor holding anchors. The owner of “Texas T’ is extremely happy with my decision to fit SARCA EXCEL and as captain I can now be more relaxed and confident when at anchor.
